The Importance of Routine

Birds like routine. It’s good to have guidelines on when to do what with your conure, to keep you organised and your conure happy. Especially when your bird is new to your home, it’s a good idea to help it settle in and stay calm.
A potential routine could be

Morning

  • Prepare you and your conure’s breakfast
  •  Interaction time: studies have proven that birds are best to be trained during the early morning as this is when they learn best. The morning is the best time to teach a bird tricks

Daytime

  • Time spent inside the cage while their owner goes to school/work. Activities are provided: interactive toys, things to chew and places to forage.

Evening

  • Allow supervised flight if your bird’s wings aren’t cut.
  • Have a small training session.
  • As a reward, follow up the training with both of your meals.
  • Remove all fresh food from the bird’s cage.
  • Darken cage at dusk to prepare for sleep.

The evening meal should be taken together- you, (your family) and the bird as to form a bond. It is also good for flocking birds such as Green Cheeks, so they have a sense of flock security.
Throughout this timetable, whenever you can, the bird should be on your shoulder as much as possible.
